re-associate dtf file to parent par file?

re-associate dtf file to parent par file?

(OP)
If a change name is required of the parent par file to the child dtf, is there a way to re-associate the drawing to the model?

RE: re-associate dtf file to parent par file?

Just open the .dft with the Revision Manager (right-click on it in Windows Explorer), the part it links to will appear missing. Choose the action "replace" and select the renamed file. Apply change.

RE: re-associate dtf file to parent par file?

You can also change the link whilst in the draft file using EDIT > LINKS
Don't forget that if the part is used in an assembly you will have to change the link there also. Either with Revision Manager or using the Replace command in the assembly.

The best way is to get to know Revision Manager, then you can rename, copy and replace files and still maintain all the links.

Yep, revision manager is the better way to do it in my opinion although the edit links should work too.

KENAT, probably the least qualified checker you'll ever meet...

RE: re-associate dtf file to parent par file?

Recently I've used rev manager to create a complete copy of a very large machine with over 1000 unique parts and all of it's 1000+ drawings ALL at the same time.
At the same time all files were renamed to have the new project number in the filename.
It's a real 'sweaty palm' time when you finally hit the button to start the process !!
After that it's Property Manager to change all the file properties to change part numbers etc.

bc.

RE: re-associate dtf file to parent par file?

Revision Manager can save a lot of work, but it has its quirks.

In a dft file this morning, I wanted to replace a .psm file for an .asm file (because the part changed and is now made of 2 separate sheetmetal parts), but it didn't even allow me to select a file type different from the original one.

I was able to replace it in the asm environment though.
