Linear DC Power Models (Basic Question)

Linear DC Power Models (Basic Question)

(OP)
Hi!

I am a computer scientist jumping head-first into the field of electrical engineering (I am looking at doing some optimisation work in distributed energy and microgrid research).

I am looking to calculate the reliability of a particular Linearised DC Power Flow network (the example I am looking at only has 6 buses, so it shouldn't be too messy), but I literally have no idea where to start.  The index people seem to be using is the EIR (Energy Index of Reliability), which is based on power not served (particularly with respect to first-order contingencies).

Is anyone aware of any basic tutorials on this type of thing that are available online, or does anyone have any salient information that would kick me in the right direction?

I know people tend to hate these broad questions and I really appreciate any help you can offer - it would really get me flying in the right direction (I would also love to share my results in the field of optimisation, with any of you that are interested).

Thank you so much!

Adam Berry

PS: For those interested, here is a link to a paper including the power network and reliability formulas I am trying to work out: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/freeabs_all.jsp?arnumber=331463
