What is the main reason to use Y-pattern globe valves?

I can't find out or recognize any special reason to use Y-pattern globe valves considering its structure.

Lower Cv in large size, high temperature, high temperature systems.

Yep, that's it.  For a given size there is less restriction.  A conventional globe-pattern valve has an S-shaped flow path,  A y-pattern valve just has a little jog for the fluid.

Does using a Y-pattern globe valve also reduce the chance of accumulation of debris in a system with a dirty fluid?

Also seems as if there would be less potential for erosion in a Y-pattern compared to the conventional globe valve considering the two changes of flow direction in the conventional design.

As ValveEngineer123 indicates, less dirt setting is 'true' in practical applications to a certain degree.

Also add to this that a well constructed Y-pattern valve also has a longer and better supported stem (bearing top and bottom or through), better flow, and damped closing if closed against flow, all giving less torque and wear and tear on seat, sealings and construction.

A result of this is that one for certain abrasive or rough conditions (and most often also generally, depending on service) will have a longer lifetime for Y-angle valves than normal pattern valves.
