Pump Selection for Installation in Storm Manhole

Pump Selection for Installation in Storm Manhole

Pump Selection for Installation in Storm Manhole

(OP)
I am working on a design to install a manhole and a permanent pump at a blind pipe size transition to pump trapped water out of a 30" line and into a section of 18" pipe downstream that has gravity flow. The 30" pipe flows into an 18" which was connected near the top of the 30" pipe, which causes the water to fill up the 30" pipe approximately half full before flowing into the 18" line. The trapped water is sediment laden and routinely fills the 30" line with sediment which greatly reduces capacity. I haven't worked with pumps much and am unsure how to go about selecting a pump for this application. Has anyone worked on a similar design that could give me some insight?

I have attached a rough detail of the situation.

RE: Pump Selection for Installation in Storm Manhole

Look at putting in a deeper sump to get the sediment out of the 30 inch line. This will also give you more choices of pumps. Look at a low head, medium volume pump. Call the local pump suppliers for recommendations.
