Abnormal column design results

Abnormal column design results

Abnormal column design results

(OP)
I am using ETABS v9.1.7 to design concrete columns. The column design produces expected results for all but one column. The design summary says that the axial force exceeds Euler's force for this column although the loading in this column is similar to or less than nearby columns. This column does lie on a slab edge. I have also sized this column up to an area 4 times greater than similarly loaded columns and it still fails. Does anyone know why I may be getting this error?

RE: Abnormal column design results

Check your unbraced length. Maybe because you are near the edge, it is probably by-passing the edge. I would ensure the meshing is properly done at this edge. Your unbraced length should be less than 1.0 for this case, check that.
