Pipe Sizing, Pump Selection For Drip Irrigation

Pipe Sizing, Pump Selection For Drip Irrigation

Pipe Sizing, Pump Selection For Drip Irrigation

(OP)
Respected Sirs,

I am a Mechanical Engineer in INDIA and I have taken project to design HDPE ( High Density Poly Ethylene) pipe line for Drip Irrigation to Coconut Farm Field.

Please provide me the valuable information in this aspect and help me for Optimal Pipe Sizing, Pump Selection, Tap Selection etc.,

------------------------------------------------------------
*** Head Loss due to friction in HDPE pipe is taken from Darchy_Weishban & Hezen_Williams Combination *****,
Head Loss(in metres) = Power(Q, a) * [  K * Power(d, b) * L * Power(1000, b) * Power(3600, a) * 0.01 ] ----Equation (1)
where,
Q - Flow Rate in Pipe in (Cu.Metre/sec)
a, b , K   - constants
d - diameter of Pipe (Metre)
L - Length of Pipe (Metre)

Vale of a, b & K:
for Pipe Diameter <= 0.125 Metre,
K = 8.36 * Power(10, 6)  ; a = 1.75 ;  b = -4.75
for Pipe Diameter > 0.125 Metre,
K = 9.19 * Power(10,6)  ; a = 1.83  ; b = -4.83

Equation(1) can be written as
Head Loss in Pipe (Metres)=
          Power(Q, b) * R,---------- Equation (2)
Where R = Resistance in Pipe

Equation(2) is resemblence of Voltage Drop in Electrical Circuit where,
Voltage Drop = Power(Current, 2) * Electrical Resitance.

So we can take the whole Pipe Circuit of Drip Irrigation as similar to ElectricalCircuit and derive various Parameters.

When ever a pipe is open to atmosphere it is regarded as grounded and the Over Head Tank (or) Pump is Pressure Source as similar to Voltage Source in electrical. Flow Rate is similar to Current in electrical circuit.
------------------------------------------------------------
 -- Please tell me whether my above approach is correct. Please suggest your view and provide valuable information.

With Thanks,
K.P. Sachidhanandhan.
