Fabrication of Steel Sleeves to repair gas pipe lines
Fabrication of Steel Sleeves to repair gas pipe lines
(OP)
I'm looking for a pipe repair method by using fabricated steel sleeves specially use in buried gas pipe lines.(Corroded areas of pipe use to repair by having sleeves made of from the material similar to the strength of the original piping material)
Currently for repairs we use spare pipes of the same grade (dia 22'' - API 5L X52) as original pipes. This method is not very successful in terms of fit up is concern as we need a diameter slightly bigger than 22'' to achieve the good fit up. To achieve the better quality of the repair, as stated in the standards I need to roll the sleeves from the steel plate similar to the strength of API 5L X52 pipe.
Appreciate if someone could give me the procedure/ Method to Fabricate/ Roll steel sleeves by using steel plates.

I don't know what thickness you need, but for a 22" nominal pipe, a split 24" Sch 60 would give you a pretty good fitup. If you need thicker, I'd suggest talking to a pressure vessel fabricator about rolling a can for you.

The actual thickness of corroded pipe should be measured before welding.

I'm just throwing this out there, as I haven't done it myself.

Sorry for the late respond. I was away for a while. Many thanks for all the replies.
Actually we are using clock spring method as well but if you get a defect with more than 4M in length we found that steel sleeves are more economical. Therefore it’s better to have some fabricated steel sleeves in stock for larger repairs. Question on pipe thickness most of them are 7.9mm thick.
