transformer connections

(OP)
consider the following:
two delta/wye transformers. primaries in parallel. secondaries feed independent loads. accidentally rolled two phases on the primary cables of one transformer when reconnecting. energized bot tx's with secondaries unloaded. blew primary fuse on feed to tx with rolled primary. replaced fuse and tried again.  tx with rolled primary hummed loudly.  denenergized and discovered rolled pair of phases.  "unrolled" primaries on the one tx and reenergized OK.  don't understand why i had this problem.  how can swapping a pair of phases on the primary of one tx (with no load on either tx) have such an effect?  did the the two deltas "fight" each other in some way?
