SECTION VIEWS

SECTION VIEWS

Is there a way to pick which components (or sub assemblies) get effected by a section view.... in other words, if I want to section an assembly but leave certain parts or sub assemblies unaffected by the section view?

Thanks

RE: SECTION VIEWS

Right click on your section view, then select "Properties" this will bring up the "Drawing View Properties" dialog box.

Select the "Section Scope" tab at the top, then pick the components which are excluded from the section view.

Hope this helps you.

RE: SECTION VIEWS

An alternative that I use frequently is to add the section views at the assembly level.  I find that you often get more control over rotation and the "feel" of what you want to show this way.

thanks for the replies.... I have a feeling your replies are referring to drawings... I'm trying to keep one sub assembly in an assembly from sectioning (while the other parts do get sectioned.

RE: SECTION VIEWS

That's what I was referring to.  In your assy, rather than using the Section View tool create a sketch and make an assembly cut.  At the bottom of the property manager you have the opportunity to select the feature scope.  Select or deselect the items you want sectioned.  Hit spacebar and save your new section view.

RE: SECTION VIEWS

DraftingMan's response was for a drawing.

Eltrons's response was for a model. You will need to create assy cuts for this method.

An alternative for a drawing is to set the properties of the outer components of the sub-assy to IsFastener.

You cannot do this with the regular Section View tool in the "heads up" toolbar.

cheers

thanks all.... the method of creating a cut at the assembly level to create the section worked well.  Appreciate the help.
