Modeling a coil spring in Abaqus

I am trying to figure out a way to model a coil (helical) in CAE.  Any ideas how to do this easily?

RE: Modeling a coil spring in Abaqus

Are you asking about creating the geometry for a coil spring, or the mechanical abstraction of one? If geometry, do you want a line so you can mesh with beam elements, a surface so you can use shells, or a solid for solid elements. The part module of Abaqus/CAE can handle all these methods... Give us some more details as to your requirements.

jrjones,

You can create a revolved solid with a pitch to create a 3D
coil spring.

Duh...pitch...thanks, forgot about the pitch specification.

Thanks

jrjones,

Did you complete the spring analysis, I need to perform the same analysis.  How did you generate the helicoil spring in Abaqus?  Did you use equation or a 3-D CAD software?
