Printing cosmetic threads in drawings

Printing cosmetic threads in drawings

Printing cosmetic threads in drawings

(OP)
I have a drawing of a stud where some portions of the OD are threaded and some are not. I put an isometric view on the drawing, and shaded it to show the cosmetic thread. All is good until I print the drawing and the thread doesn't print. Any ideas?

SW 2008 sp0.0

Thanks,
Rich

RE: Printing cosmetic threads in drawings

You need to have the view displayed in Shaded mode.

cheers

The view is in shaded mode. It displays fine on the screen, but doesn't show up on the print (hard copy).

RE: Printing cosmetic threads in drawings

Does the thread appear correctly in the print preview?

If it does it's probably a printer driver issue.

cheers

Good thought.

The thread does not show in the print preview. Also, I've printed to 2 different printers (from 2 different computers) with the same results.

I looked all through SW Tools>Options and my Print Properties & Print Setup,  and can't find anything that seems to apply.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Rich

RE: Printing cosmetic threads in drawings

Is the drawing set to Draft quality?

Is the Cosmetic Thread Display set to High Quality or Draft Quality?

cheers

RE: Printing cosmetic threads in drawings

(OP)
Cosmetic Thread Display is set to High Quality. (If set to Draft, the dashed line representing the thread ID shows through the part.)

I don't see a quality setting for the Drawing itself. Where would I find that?

RE: Printing cosmetic threads in drawings

Tools > Options > System Options > Drawings/Display Style

cheers

Thanks. The Display Style is set to "High Quality".

I tried setting to Draft and creating a new view, but no change. I tried all combinations of these 2 settings, but it didn't make a difference.

Thanks for staying with me on this. I truly appreciate your time.

RE: Printing cosmetic threads in drawings

Can you ZIP and upload the part and drawing file for review?

cheers

RE: Printing cosmetic threads in drawings

It printed fine on a Laser Jet HP2550L and a Toshiba ES280.

It must be something in our print drivers or setup, then. I will make sure we have the latest driver, and talk with our IT guy to see if he has any thoughts.

BTW, I have been consulting this forum for some time, but this is the first time I have actually posted. Thanks for your help. You guys are great!

Take care,
Rich

Just a follow-up on this issue. On the advice of our VAR, I upgraded to sp3.1 (why didn't I think of that?), and now our cosmetic threads print fine.

Thanks again,
Rich
