Hi,
I wonder, if you could help me with following topic.
I am using NX 4.04.
When creating machined part from casting, I would like to distinguish the machined faces. I can do, that the imported solid would have different colour and the faces would have different colour. But problem is, that when you change the solid, you have to do this procedure again. The other down side of this is, when you have part machining followed by assembly machining. Is it somehow possible, that the linked body would keep one colour and the subtracted features would have the colour of the subtracted solids?
The other thing is, can you choose to have some parts wireframe and some parts shaded in the assembly?
Thank you!
Vit

RE: Visualization
If you're really careful you can set your modeling preferences in such a way as to make the machined face thing work most of the time. Set your New Face Properties from Body, and your Booleaned face properties to Tool Body. Where you need to be careful is with making certain that the boolean is the very last thing that you do to the model.
To shade some objects and not others turn on partial shading mode. You then edit which objects are shaded you use "Edit Object Display", select the objects that you wish to have shaded and then toggle partially shaded on or off. If you've never used it then the defaults will be set to off, they could be changed in your customer defaults, but it makes no real sense to do that anyway.
Good luck

RE: Visualization
Bodies in the work part of the colors of solids/facets that are components of an assembly can all be assigned separate colors. to negate these settings go File>Utilities>Part Cleanuop, and under reset component display select remove all changes and the hit OK.
If you have a multi colored solid that you just want to make the one color then edit object display, selct you body, tick on "apply to all faces", (it is now hidden under a pull down in NX-5), and then you select or inherit a color of your choice and hit OK, to apply and finish.

RE: Visualization
Is it possible to have the datum planes absolutely invisible, so that I could see through them without having the bodies faded? I would like to see them only as a frame

Thanks John,
The system was trying to tell me that it was there in the customer defaults when I did a search. I just couldn't see it for looking right at the thing.
Vit,
File>Utilities>Customer Defaults... Gateway, Vizualization, Performance, Disable Plane Translucency tick.
I think that it may not be a sticky setting, and could possibly be part dependent. Certainly the customer defaults will by and large get rid of it for you.
