Is it possible to assign Postprocessing values to Modeling mode?

Is it possible to assign Postprocessing values to Modeling mode?

Is it possible to assign Postprocessing values to Modeling mode?

(OP)
Is it possible to assign the Steel Design Values to my Members in the Modeling Mode.  Let me elaborate.  When I first start modeling my structure, I obviously do not know what member sizes are required, and it is not important to know in most cases.  I assign a member size that I think is reasonable in my Modeling model.  For instance, I assigned a value of W6x15 for Member 121. So my member size in odeling Mode is W6x15.  However, when I ran STAAD with the SELECT ALL command, STAAD assigned a value of W8x10 to Member 1.  So my Steel Design Value in Postprocessing mode is W8x10.  I am happy with the value of W8x10 and will use that in my design, say.  Now, my question is:  Is it possible to permanently assign the value of W8x10 to Member 1, so that it will have a value of W8x10 (instead of W6x15) in the modeling model.

The reason I am asking this question, is I want to assign all the Steel Design values to my model in the Modeling model.  Then, I want to remove some members, say members 2 and 3 and see if my model is still adequate.  That is, if my model will still work without members 2 and 3, and yet not to have to change any of the existing members that were provided by Steel Design, and not to have any of the remaining members fail?  I believe this is possible in other program, say RAM Advanse, but I am not so familiar with this particular feature in STAAD.

RE: Is it possible to assign Postprocessing values to Modeling mode?

If you add a 2nd Perform Analysis after the Select All. The new sizes will be analysed with a new stiffness matrix.

Thanks for the prompt response, SteveGregory.  Yeah, a second PERFORM ANALYSIS after the SELECT ALL will enable the new sizes to be analysed with a new stiffness matrix.  How do I assign the new selected sizes to my model, though, if that is possible, so that I have a brand new model with the selected sizes as the preliminary sizes of my model.  The new sizes being overridden over my preliminary sizes.  I hope that makes sense.  Can this be done in STAAD?

RE: Is it possible to assign Postprocessing values to Modeling mode?

A CHECK CODE after the second PERFORM ANALYSIS will show the new sizes used. All of the other post-processing results can be placed in the output file as well.

If you want to modify your input file with the new sizes, I think that you can change it by saving your model right after the analysis run. Try it and see.

Hey SteveGregory, thanks again for your prompt response. Per your suggestion, I tried saving my model right after running the STAAD analysis, but that did not seem to do the trick.  STAAD did not replace my preliminary sizes with the Steel Design that it deemed were adequate.  Do you have any more suggestions?

In the Post Processing mode, click on Results then Update Properties.  Then File Save.
