RE: how to treat tool steel

Hello Hedricktools!
Uddeholm has a nice brochure on heat treating of tool steels on the web.  Go to http://www.uddeholm.com/UTAB/ and click on the Information Sheets button and follow the trail from there.  Also extensive are the files that Timken-Latrobe has put on the web (Thank you, Scott!).  These you can find at http://www.timken.com/products/specialtysteel/engineering/tech_info/techtips.asp, where you can download pdf files or send away for them.

If you want more information, I think that Roberts, Krauss, and Kennedy's book TOOL STEELS is without peer, and is available from the ASM International website, at http://www.asm-intl.org/Template.cfm?Section=Bookstore&NavMenuID=18&template=Ecommerce/ProductDisplay.cfm&ProductID=11421.

You can probably get a lot more information from the supplier of the tool steel, as well: it has been my experience that many of them know of what they speak.

Hope this helps!

Lee
