Can NX5 use 8GB RAM ?

Can NX5 use 8GB RAM ?

Can NX5 use 8GB RAM ?

(OP)
One of our group moved to NX5. Is there anyway-like environment variables- to make ug utilise 8GB RAM. As of now it is using 3GB max (found while opening a large assembly) out of 8GB available memory.

RE: Can NX5 use 8GB RAM ?

NX5 is installed on 64 bit machine with XP SP2

RE: Can NX5 use 8GB RAM ?

This probably means that you are running the 32 bit version of NX on your 64 bit machine. To take full advantage of your available memory you would need to run the 64 bit version of NX (I think a 64 bit version exists, but I cannot confirm that).

RE: Can NX5 use 8GB RAM ?

64-bit versions of NX are available on both Linux and Windows platforms.

32-bit versions of NX running on a 32-bit OS is limited to a maximum of 3gb memory and 4gb when running on a 64-bit OS.  You will need to run the 64-bit version of NX on a 64-bit OS to utilize 8gb of memory for the NX application.

RE: Can NX5 use 8GB RAM ?

If you have your UGII_SMP_ENABLE set to 1 on a 32 bit Windows machine, wouldn't there be 3 GB or so avaliable for each processor (for those NX operations that can utilize SMP)?  If not, would another application on this same workstation be able to tap in to the additional ram by using another processor, assuming NX has one processor and a lot of the initial 3 GB tied up?

RE: Can NX5 use 8GB RAM ?

Sorry but it doesn't work that way.  Irrespective of how many threads (processes) that you can run simultaneously on a system, the addressing of memory for all processes combined, is based on the limitations of the operating system itself, which means that with a 32-bit system, 3gb will be the limit in terms of memory available to the applications, period!

If you need to access more memory than that, you only course of action will be to move to a 64-bit environment.

Sorry, it is 64 bit OS only, not XP SP2

RE: Can NX5 use 8GB RAM ?

Well if it is XP and it is the 64bit version it should be no big deal to download SP2 install that and see whether you experience any improvement. I'm also hearing that XP SP3 is just around the corner and may deliver improved performance. Apparently early reports probably coming out of beta testing are that it is quicker than Vista.

Good Luck
