Chrome-magnesite Crucibles

Chrome-magnesite Crucibles

(OP)
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has ever heard of a company that would manufacture chrome-magnesite crucibles (for lab tests).  A colleague would like to simulate a pyrometallurgical process in the lab and wants to use this for the crucible material.

Thanks very much

D

RE: Chrome-magnesite Crucibles

At one time it was no problem getting CM crucibles from any foundry  or refractory supply store until the demise of all the refractory companies. The last CM crucibles I saw came from A P Green prior to their dismantlement.

Here is whats left of several refractory companies operating under to two umbrella companies. I would give them a call and if they don't have CM crucibles they probably know where you might find them.

As you are looking a small number and smaller size you might want to give Legend a call. Or do a search under "assay crucibles +fire" as there is one hell of a lot of activity in this area at the present time.

Small CM crucibles are also used in thermite welding.
