looking for a good design reference text on pier design

I have been looking on the net and in the libraries for a well-written, understandable text with design examples of concrete drilled pier design, to no avail. I am specifically looking for help in design of vertical steel to resist lateral loading. Does anyone have a favorite text for this subject?

Usually, the geotechnical engineer will prepare a lateral response analysis for various pile sizes and embedments. This will require the structure's design loads (vertical , lateral and moment) at the pier caps/columns as input.
The analysis may go through several iterations with the structural engineer, to account for the effects of resteel in the response.
In the end, it all comes down to the predicted shear and moment in the drilled pier. Designing steel to accomodate these loads is usually straightforward.

To ensure the pier is structurally adequate, I would use concrete design principles to calculate the moment capacity for the pier, this should also be easily programmed into a spreadsheet.
Keep your reinforcement above 1% of the total cross-sectional area.
I would also like to recommend Tomilson's textbook on Pile Design.
