(OP)
We are a tool shop that receives iges files to quote tools on a regular basis.  Unfortunately, when we iges them into pro they have lots of hole or gaps, and even have surfaces missing at times.  We purchased import data doctor as an addition to proe.  It helps, but we could spend hour trying to make a solid.  We are looking for supplemental software or solution to bringing catia, unigraphics, solidworks, and ideas iges file in quicker and easier to make solid models.  Any help would be greatly appriciated.

RE: IMPORT TO PROE FROM CATIA,UNIGRAPHIC,AND IDEAS

About a year (or so) ago, I had the oppotunity to play around with a software package called CADfix.  Its primary function is repairing IGES files and exporting them out as an IGES for specific environments (eg. IGES for Pro, IGES for Catia, IDEAS, etc.).  There are some basic steps that you follow in CADfix(kind of like a following a simple flow chart) that would generally fix most IGES files.

You may want to look into it, go to www.transcendata.com that has more information on CADfix and other IGES optimization tools. As a side note, I do remember the rep telling us that it was used by a lot of mould makers.

Only one word of caution, CADfix is a good tool when you are having some fairly standard IGES problems (e.g. duplicate entities, missing surfaces, etc.) but when you get to a "non-standard"/complex problem, it could take you just as long, or longer, than if you fixed it in Pro.

Hope this helps

We are a tolls shop too, and i see the same problem. If is is possible for you to get your files in step format, this gives you less holes, gabs or missing surface.

Hope this helps

RE: IMPORT TO PROE FROM CATIA,UNIGRAPHIC,AND IDEAS

Bonn is right - IGES is becoming more and more obsolete due to accuracy limitations.  STEP is the way to go, especially due to the fact that there are new STEP protocols coming down the pipe that will integrate seamlessly with NC machinery (called STEP-NC)...something you tool shop guys will probably like, eh?
