STL point limitations

STL point limitations

STL point limitations

(OP)
Hello,

Does anyone know the point limitation when importing a cloud using STL license.  I don't have the extra $$$ for a DSE license.

Thanks! Peter

RE: STL point limitations

I have this from the online doc :

In Cgo, Ascii free and IGES formats, you can not process more than 10,000 points at each import,
in one or several files, e.g. you can not import 4 files of 3,000 points each in one shot but you can import them separately.
This limitation applies to the input files (before Sampling or resizing with the bounding box).
If you try to import over 10,000 points in one shot, a fatal error panel is displayed:
Too many points for this configuration.
If the Grouped option is active, no file is imported.
If the Grouped option is not active, files are imported as long as the sum of their points does
not exceed 10,000 points.
Mesh Regeneration is not available on those files.

I do not agree with the online docs.  You can import 10,000+ points in Ascii free format using DSE.

Let me explain:

My .txt file has over 4million points.  I can import all points in ONE operation with DSE license in Ascii free format. If I use STL lic. to import same .txt file, I get "Too many points for this configuration" error.  Maybe the online docs are only referring to STL.  I will check and let you all know.

Peter,

this section was from STL section...

My test results in Ascii free format:

STL - 10,000pts OK!
STL - 10,001pts "Too many points for this configuration."

DSE - 4,000,000pts+ OK!

Therefore, online docs are correct, BUT only for STL licenses not DSE.  Maybe our friends in Suresnes should test before posting false information.

I did not realize that information, from Eric, was extracted from STL section.  Maybe Peter should start reading the online docs himself.

Cheers!
