Under Deck Platform

Under Deck Platform

Under Deck Platform

(OP)
We have a steel frame deck 80 feet above the ground. The W 30 beams are five foot on center and before we put the steel deck down and pour the floor we have to install all the piping on the underside of  the beams. Can't use a lift underneath the deck due to the extreme slope so we have to hang men on a platform attached to the beams to install the plumbing and storm pipes, what would be the safest method for this application.Deck is 200'x 200' and of course the pipes run perpendicular to the lenght of the beams making it a multiple set up production.

RE: Under Deck Platform

Can you scaffold up from underneath??

OR - scaffold can be hung from the I-beams

OR - Swing stage type scaffolds can be hung from the I-beams

We do this type of work all the time.

RE: Under Deck Platform

(OP)
Can't scaffold up from the bottom due to the steep slope project is overhanging a cliff with no access except from the top.Thats what we thought to hang brackets from the I-beams to support  planking or picks to we can access 20 to 30 feet at a time and then be able to slide it to the next bracket.

RE: Under Deck Platform

Then hang some scaffold from the beams.  This can be done by any reputable scaffolding company.

STRONGLY suggest that independent life lines be provided to all personnel.

RE: Under Deck Platform

Also strongly suggest that if you DO use independent life lines (fall arrest systems) that you have rescue plans in place and appropriate resources to implement them if you have to. Google the term "suspension trauma" to find out what i am talking about - harnesses can become deadly if you are suspended vertically for more than 5 minutes!

Kind regards
