pressure vessel calculations - verification

pressure vessel calculations - verification

(OP)
I've designed an unfired pressure vessel using theproceedures from Chapt.12 in "Formulas for Stress and Strain" by Raymond J. Roark (Fourth Edition).

How can I verify my calculated stresses?

Is there a site I can go to for this?

RE: pressure vessel calculations - verification

Zoc-

You'll get a more thorough beating from forum794: Boiler and Pressure Vessel engineering.

I'll simply state that there are many more ways to fail a vessel than you are aware of. Roark's formulas do not and cannot provide all the answers. Before you lose your livelihood due to the inevitable civil lawsuit consider hiring a competent and experienced pressure vessel engineer.

Zoc,
Can you enlighten me and advise where in Roark are allowable material stresses listed? Where in Roark does it identify the required test pressure? There are a few other items that need to be addressed such as supporting, NDT, Welding design which to my knowledge are not in Roark. Suggest you consider strongly jte's advice.

Zoc,
Where are you located, there should be a local PV code for guidence on design and verification. Look at that first!

Pressure vessel containing pressurized gas is a BOMB.

For commercial use every country or state has regulations who is authorized to design pressure vessel and has standards such as ASME standards that the approved designer must follow.

For aerospace and military pressure vessels there are different standards such as MIL-STD-1522A which allows lower safety factors.

You should not design a pressure vessel if you are not approved as a pressure vessel designer.
