Re: pile cap design -
We are installing 880mm diameter piles and one is out of tolerance (location) such that a second pile is needed. The second pile was installed adjacent to the existing pile. These two piles will be chipped down 4 ft to allow for a 5'x6'x4ft deep transition cap to be poured to grade - how is such a cap designed? Normally there is space between the piles and some flexure will occur. Pile cage steel will extend into the transition cap.

Check ACI 'Strut and Tie' method or the equivalent with ACI...

The CRSI Design Handbook has very good technical info on how to design pile caps, and pile cap tables as well.
