How to decide flare header size

How to decide flare header size

How to decide flare header size

(OP)

Dear friends,
I have a question about flare sizing.  Below is my understanding, but I am not sure, since I cant find related standards, API recommdation.

(1)For non fire case, decide what is the worst case(i.e. Max flow) , and decide header size. The worst case could be a major reactor upset or  plantwide power failure. Am I right?

(2) For fire case,  conseder all equipment( vessel, reactor) caught on fire, and decide the relief capacity?

Thank you very much~

RE: How to decide flare header size

Hi Texashomeless

To size flare system you should look through API 521 first of all.

API 537 is useful 'Flare details for refinery and petrochemical service'

regarding relief rate: you shall consider all possible relief scenarios and then compare to choose the worst one.

Good luck
