Hi... i need to know whats the best way to weld 4130... im going to be using wire feed... im goign to be welding tubing and plate together to make a rollcage and all that good stuff for my truck... the tube is 1 3/4 od. .120 wall thickness and 3/16 plate.... whats is the best set up to weld this stuff togehter... thanks... and whats the advantages and disadvantages between self shilding and gas shielded wire and also flux cored wire or non... thanks alot, randy

Randy,

First is this a for show roll bar or is it suppose to be functional.

If it is suppose to be certified for competition you need to check with the group you will be competing with.

Second is the steel plate 4130 also.  

I have never heard of anyone using the flux core for 4130.  In fact the only 4130 I have seen welded the folks used Oxy-acetelene and TIG.

its going to be for a personal truck not for racing...... and yea i was lookign up some stuff. and im going to use solid wire... yea the plate is 4130 alos... so im goign to use er70s-5 wire with co2/argon mix gas.... and well see how that works out for me... Randy
