Creat a block from a part

Creat a block from a part

Creat a block from a part

(OP)
We have a label that is a part. This label gets put into every Solidworks drawing we create for a product which is its on individual assembly. However we have noticed lately that this assembly is taking a long time to load. We have come to the conclusion that this label is linking all our assemblies and drawings and is the reason everything is taking a long time to load. My solution is to take the label and turn it into a block for our assemblers to use as reference. But I have no idea on how to turn a part into a block. Does anyone know how to do this??? Thanks in advance!

RE: Creat a block from a part

Have you tried loading it lightweight?
Do you want it as a block to add into a drawing, or the assy?
If you want it as a part still in the assy, save it as a dumb solid (parasolid).

RE: Creat a block from a part

Text or sketch geometry can be converted to a Block, but not a 3D part.

If the label is only placed into a 2D drawing (not the 3D model) why use a 3D part? Could you add the label as text into the sheet format?

Is the label just text in a sketch, or is it an emboss/deboss/scribe on a surface or solid?

How many times is the label used in a typical assy?

Are you using single sheet or multi-sheet drawings?
I doubt it is the label causing the slowdown, but you could quickly check by suppressing all its features in the FM tree and resaving. Then see how long the assy takes to open.

If the assy is growing, it is probably the typical SW/Windows bloat causing the slowdown. Do you use EcoSqueeze or Unfrag?

cheers
