Part Numbers, TeamCenter, & NX Auto Parts Lists Help

Part Numbers, TeamCenter, & NX Auto Parts Lists Help

Part Numbers, TeamCenter, & NX Auto Parts Lists Help

(OP)
We are about to have TeamCenter Express installed and we currently have gone to NX5 from NX3. I have used TeamCenter at previous jobs so I am somewhat familiar with its use.

We are looking at incorporating the revision level into our part number scheme (i.e.: T0101AS01A with "the last "A" being the revision level.). I know TeamCenter's filename for the above part number will read like this: T0101AS01/A and that the part number and revision are seperate attributes that can be accessed. I can combine attributes (i.e.: <W@DRAWING NUMBER><W@DRAWING REV>0 to get the drawing format to reflect the desired data.

My question can I manipulate these attributes so that the auto parts list, in NX, will display the part number with the revision level? Example?

I'm not certain the attribute off the top of my head, but one of them will in fact display T0101AS01/A.  I believe it is DB_PART_NO.

Just like in the drawing format block for part number I would like the auto parts list to reflect: T0101AS01A

No revision column on the parts list and no seperate revision block in the drawing format.  The part number would reflect the revision level:

Rev "A' = T0101AS01A

Rev "B" = T0101AS01B

And so on...

RE: Part Numbers, TeamCenter, & NX Auto Parts Lists Help

Hello Gary.
First I'd like to thank you about the interesting thread topic. There was another thread about part revisions few days ago.
It is really handy to know how to manipulate the part revisions in NX. As far as I see NX has a lot of potential about it, even without Teamcenter work flow.
It is good to know how to make NX to recognize the separate versions (revisions) of the part file, using part file name.
As well the auto complete in title block fields and part list: file name, revision, version, weight, part number, etc...
It would be good for engineer (designer) to has some kind of tools about local project management. To have auto recognition of the new and old revisions of parts according to file name. For example to have files:
fastener_file_name_v1_a.prt -> fastener ver. 1 rev. a
fastener_file_namev1_b.prt -> fastener ver. 1 rev. b
So NX to replace the new revision in all assemblies and drawings in project but to keep (as backup) the old revision files.
Some of mentioned ideas are already available in NX, and I know about them from ENG-TIPS.
The more things I learn about NX, the more I like it and the more I realize the richness of this product.
Today I went to help of my colleague about reverse engineering. He is working on Solid Works many years. But when he saw the power of NX he was aghast. He could NOT do any of that in SW.
NX gives freedom for design. That's the true!
