API 650 Storage Tank Materials & MDMT
API 650 Storage Tank Materials & MDMT
(OP)
I am new to the Oil & Gas Industry. I am hoping someone can explain some issues I am having with material specification and MDMT.
I am trying to specify material for a storage tank. The specified MDMT is -45 deg.C, I want to build this tank with carbon steel. The tank is design to be atmospheric and use to storage steam condensate
Is it neccessary based on the MDMT to use low temp carbon material to build this tank or can I go with reg. temp carboon steel?
If I go with reg. temp carbon steel is there certain impact test requirements for certain thickneses?
Any suggestion on this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Go to a well established tank fabricator who is experienced and simply specify "carbon steel selected as per API-650 guidelines"
You do not have to be more specific than this, additionally he may be able to reduce his bid based on flexibility you are giving him in the selection of materials.
Sometimes he can get a break on costs when materials are ordered by combining different projects..

Is there any link to price lists for above?
Thanks!
