Modeling epoxy

Im modeling up an assembly where a capacitor is epoxied in a housing using 2007.  Is there a simple way to create the "epoxy" in the void between the housing and the capacitor as a model.  I would like to show this for visual appeal. Thanks for your feedback.

RE: Modeling epoxy

So the epoxy is a potting compound?  (I'm surprised it needs to be modeled, but the model will tell you the true volume if you need it.)

With this sort of thing, I use the Cavity feature within the context of the assembly.  Check it out in Help if you're not familiar with it.  Should work great.

Yup it is the potting compound. So I created the cavity "in context" utilizing the two parts in the assembly.  The cavity was created, however in don't see anything....what am i not doing right?  Thanks

RE: Modeling epoxy

1. Create a base part that is your epoxy.
2. Insert that into the assy.
3. Create the cavity feature by selecting parts that will be embedded.

Worked great...thanks guys

RE: Modeling epoxy

My material database has a few materials for epoxies, if you need them.

And it is a fine database too.

you wouldn't have a suggestion for an epoxy with excellent thermal conductivity would you.

RE: Modeling epoxy

A Google for thermally conductive epoxy yields oodles of hits.

cheers
