NX3: Fatal error: OS signal 11

NX3: Fatal error: OS signal 11

NX3: Fatal error: OS signal 11

(OP)
Ok geniuses... Question of the day.

I'm getting a fatal error when launching NX3 when logged on as the UG administrator (my normal ID launches NX3 just fine...).  The IT administrator (the real 'guru') has the same problem and is at a loss.  NX4 and NX5 launch fine.

When launching, everything appears normal... the syslog indicates an operating system error; "EXCEPTION: O/S ERROR: signal  11 in line 1461 of o:\ugnx302\ip3\src\syss\error\ind\error.cxx"

...Anyone have a clue as to what could be going on?  Am trying to avoid the IT guys desire for wiping and reloading my machine.  I'll be happy to provide more info as needed; I'm just not sure of what's needed... smile

As always, TIA and a shiny new star is waiting for you!

Regards,
SS
CAD should pay for itself, shouldn't it?

RE: NX3: Fatal error: OS signal 11

Make sure that the environment variables for your 'admin' log in, at least those not dealing specifically with admin needs, are the same as for the normal logins which work.  It sounds like some O.S. library is not being found when NX 3 is starting.

RE: NX3: Fatal error: OS signal 11

Okay, well it isn't as though we haven't all seen "signal 11" errors before. An apparently deliberately obtuse error message, the meaning of which has never been clear to me. There is a path to a .cxx file which would appear to be visual C.

To quote from what a Google search found.
"CXX is a file extension associated with File containing Visual C++ code files . Incorrect associations are the cause of many file extension errors."

Now I have made a search of my system which also has NX-3 installed and I found no such file as error.cxx. Could it be that this file is something belonging to a customization local to your site, and not part of UG? Maybe your administrator will know?

If you're logged in as administrator two things come to mind that principally vary. One is you have sway over file permissions that means you may manage to open and therefore lock for editing certain files that would normally be read only and therefore accessible to other processes, perhaps... That this is affecting you is fairly unlikely, but may be in  the mix.

The real likely difference is that you have a separate user profile and therefore perhaps not all the same devices/logical drives are mounted when you log in, different startup settings and different NX application defaults. Check that you're also login in to the same domain as you may need something that resides on a networked location etc. If you're not then it may make the difference and you may even have to edit ugii_env.dat and change any customer defaults that address directories or drives available to a user logging in to the domain but not to as the local administrator.

Check all of these are the same before you write of your installation. Also check that your IT department hasn't contributed some customizations that work differently from standard UG. One good test would be to Start UG using the Start>Programs method avoiding any batch files you normally use.

Check also that you can see the license and that it reads modules can be checked out. If you're local administrator and can't see a networked license server then you won't start UG.

Whatever you do I don't think you need to re-install. You may even be able to do what you need by simply giving you working user administrator rights on that system.

Best Regards

Hudson
