Question on material used in designing pressure vessels
Question on material used in designing pressure vessels
(OP)
My question is pertaining to the material which can be used in designing a low-pressure (27psi) pressure vessel containing SF6 (non-lethal). Can JIS SS400 (equivalent to ASTM A36) mild carbon steel be used when manufacturing such a pressure vessel? I see in the ASME code that SA-36 can be used under certain criteria (section UCS-6), but I am not sure if SA-36 is the same as ASTM A36. Any insight would be appreciated.

RE: Question on material used in designing pressure vessels
If your pressure vessel is to be contructed in accordance to ASME VIII-1, JIS SS400 may not be used unless approved by the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Committee. Refer to UG-4(d) of ASME VIII-1 and Appendix 5 of ASME Section II, Part D.
