Ultrasonic Examination of Plate

Ultrasonic Examination of Plate

Ultrasonic Examination of Plate

(OP)
I have a 45mm Thick plate that has an area of lumellar inclusions noted at 23mm over an area of 400mm at it's widest point and 30mm at the narrowest point and is 1750mm from it's widest to narrowest point. The inclusion reflectors are 20% - 50% of the DAC Curve. What if any impact does this has on the structural durability of the plate?

RE: Ultrasonic Examination of Plate

during I work in shipbuilding yard and when surveyor find more smaller on longitudinal bulkhead we need cut out that area and weld insert, after that welding lines ultrasonic test, but better first talk with BV,DNV,GL,ABS inspectors

RE: Ultrasonic Examination of Plate

What standard is being applied to the NDT - that will tell you whether the plate is deemed acceptable or not based on the imperfections that have been detected?  If the plate is in place, then a structural fitness for service analysis may be required dependent upon the criticality of the item.
