Assembly Drws - Line visibility with components hidden

Assembly Drws - Line visibility with components hidden

Assembly Drws - Line visibility with components hidden

(OP)
I'm having difficulty with line visibility in assembly drawings.  It only happens when I have some components hidden in an oblique view.  Some lines don't end where they should when a component that would normally hide a portion of the line is hidden.  These lines are often longer or shorter than they should be.  Does anybody else have this problem?  What should be done?

This problem doesn't seem to occur with normal views or with no hidden components.  It also seems okay when I create a configuration that suppresses the desired components.  Unfortunately, if I use a different configuration for different views, they won't be linked to my BOM, will they?

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks,

Tim

You might want to check a couple of things out.

1.) Under Tools, Options, Document Properties, Image Quality, change the wireframe to High and then check these views that you are having problems with.

2.)  A lot of times when edges do not appear or appear incorrectly there is interference between the parts.  Go to the assembly and do an interference check.

1) I hadn't thought to try that, but when I did, I saw no difference.

2) I have a snap-on bezel at each end of an extruded enclosure that has an interference fit, and the line visibility problem is where the hidden bezel would be.  You might be on to something, but even when I create a configuration where the bezel doesn't exist, the resulting view (using the same orientation) has the same problem.

I've been using SolidWorks since 1996 and have always had some line loss.  It used to be much worse and has gotten better each release.  I was kind of wondering if other people were still noticing any issues with it.

Anybody else noticing this?  More ideas?

Thanks,

Tim

Another idea might be to go online and try to find the latest drivers for your video card.

"Happy the Hare at morning for she is ignorant to the Hunter's waking thoughts."

I updated the video card driver just over a month ago.  Besides, the print matches the display.  If it was the video, shouldn't the print still be okay?

If this doesn't happen in normal front, right, Top views. I would try rotating the model just a bit or make a special view in the model and change it in the named view properties at the drawing stage.

I too used to see this line issue but I just moved the model a bit or like I said make a special view in the assembly.

This procedure shouldn't screw your BOM up.

Try that see if that helps.

I've used that technique before and I totally forgot about it.  Of course, it worked.

Thanks for the reminder,

I too have the same problems and I notice that if I have the view rotated on standard iso that the whole view shows. Rotating the same view to a different angle and some lines would disappear.

Just like Tim, I looking for a cure.
