J-integral in 3D model

J-integral in 3D model

(OP)
I am using ABAQUS 6.4.
To calculate J-integral in a 3D model, is it necessary to use 20-noded brick elements (e.g. C3D20)?
If C3D20 is used without collapsed edge at the crack line, how to include the nodes around the crack front? I tried to select a crack tip for output; the error message is ‘at least 3 nodes needed in node set’. Then I added two mid nodes (one is above and the other below the tip node); the error message is ‘The nodes are not in same coordinates.’
Can you please give me some suggestions?
