Controlling assembly component display in drawings

Controlling assembly component display in drawings

Controlling assembly component display in drawings

(OP)
I find myself working with three views when modeling a mold, I use them only to control component display.  There is cavity-side, core-side, and trimetric (whole mold).  I use the "remove component from view" button found on the "exploded views" toolbar to un-clutter the display.

When making drawings, I repeat the same process on each drawing view, generally duplicating the three views used in modeling 2-3 times each.

I do not use layers to control component display.  Show/Hide is great while working, but seems inadequate for drawings.

Component groups require an advanced assembly license that I do not have access to.

Am I missing an obvious shortcut or technique?  I would like to setup my three "display groups" for modeling and drawing views at the same time, rather than repeat these steps every time a drawing needs to be output (assuming there have been changes).  Placing a base view using one of the model views seems to work initially, but as components are added/removed from that view in modeling the drawing does not reflect the change (after update of course).

When you are adding a base view there is a "Part" icon on the toolbar.  Click this and then select the component you want to display a view from.  You are now adding a view from the part instead of the entire assembly.  This saves you from creating exploded views for a single component.
