Pro/Desktop vs. Solidworks

Pro/Desktop vs. Solidworks

Pro/Desktop vs. Solidworks

(OP)
Has anyone used Pro/Desktop Express extensively?  I've just begun to use it, and am very impressed with its performance, price (FREE!), and interoperability with Autocad and Pro/E.  For a free download from PTC, its seems quite capable as a 3D parametric modeler, although is lacking in some of the basic 2D sketching tools.  Comments, anyone?

RE: Pro/Desktop vs. Solidworks

You'll find that in order to do more complicated (ie larger assemblies and file management) routines in Pro/Desktop you'll have to get more and more add-on supplimental programs from PTC.  Desktop may be a good 3d modeler for singular parts and small assemblies, but from what I have been hearing (I don't use it myself), it falls hsort of the capabilities that SolidWorks 2001plus has right out of the box.

You might want to try Google Groups, comp.cad.solidworks, and search for more on this topic.
