"Save as" fails to even start

"Save as" fails to even start

"Save as" fails to even start

(OP)
SW 2007 SP 4.0

One of our users has SW on an HP laptop.  Sometimes his "Save as" fails to work.  The save dialog does not even come up.

It seems to only happen when his laptop is connected to the network.  The problem does not affect files.  We have not spotted a pattern w.r.t. network vs. local files, permissions, parts-assemblies-drawings or ownership.

RE: "Save as" fails to even start

Have you tried using a keyboard shortcut to that function?

cheers

The "patient" (laptop's owner) won't accept this treatment.

I met another person with the same problem, a contract guy that comes in here twice a wekk.  The problem seems to exist for laptops that are used on- and off-network.

RE: "Save as" fails to even start

My guess is that the default location or something else being referenced to by the save as dialog box is pointing at a network resource that is not currently available, i.e. a network server from another location where the laptop had been, or a server at your location which the user has not yet logged into.  The Windows time-out in these situations can be very long and SW may be giving up.

The failure is immediate.  No pause.  Sometimes the "Save as" fails when trying to copy a local file with no restrictions.

"The "patient" (laptop's owner) won't accept this treatment."

I have no patience with those kind of patients. If they aren't willing to take the medication, then they deserve to suffer the pains of the illness. I would suggest they find a new doctor. wink

cheers
