Eddie Current

(OP)
Gentleman, Iam looking for full explanation for this occurrence, and what steps can be taken to correct this.

              Thanks, fjconair

RE: Eddie Current

To get a full explanation you have to give a full question.

I don't know what type of equipment you are referring to.

When an ac current flow it creates a field. That field is enhanced if the current happens to be wrapped around an iron core.  Any conductor through which the main or stray field passes will have eddy currents induced.   This may include the conductor itself, core iron, cable shields, conduit, structures etc.

From examination simple principles, we can deduce that eddy current circulating in a path is proportional to B*f*A/resistivity, and therefore losses proportional to B^2*F^2*A^2/resistivity^2.

That formula should tell you which factors you need to attack. Try to decrease B by decreasing exciting current, adding shielding between source and victim, running supply/return cables together to cancel fields etc.

Core iron is made relatively immune to eddy current by dividing it into thin separately-insulated lamiantions. If laminations break down we get more eddy current losses.

Eddy losses within large conductors themselves are decreased by using stranding.

Eddie current - the juice that powers Van Halen's electric guitars.

Eddy current - what electricpete said.

RE: Eddie Current

redtrumpet - good one.

I've been waiting a long time to use that rock band emoticon.  For anybody on the forums who doesn't know this yet, click on the "Emoticons/Smileys" link in "Step 2 Options" of every post.  Type the name in [] for the emoticon/smiley you want to use in the body of your post.  Voila, instant animation.

Sounds like the happy time during electroconvulsive therapy Eddie Munster gets every Tuesday evening.  {Yeay Thymatron!}
