Nickel base alloy hard facing

Nickel base alloy hard facing

(OP)
Hi,

I have the result of a qualification after hard facing with nickel base alloy as grade 5.(similar colmonoy 5)
My question is about Fe content :What is the effect if Fe content is superior to the requirement?
For my exemple we need Fe content between 2% and 5%, and we have obtained on hard faced metal 11% !
What is the role of Fe in Nickel base alloy?

Thank you for your help.

RE: Nickel base alloy hard facing

chti;
There are two issues here. The first is that increased iron will adversely affect corrosion resistance of the weld overlay in service. Second, it would appear that you have significant dilution with the base metal, and you need to increase the thickness of the weld overlay to achieve staying below the maximum iron content of 5%.
