acceleration time history vs displacement time history

acceleration time history vs displacement time history

(OP)
Hi guys,

I have a question described in the following.

The model I am running is a foundation under seismic excitations. I need to input an earthquake motion to the boundary of the foundation. In ABAQUS, the input motion can be chosen as the type of acceleration, velocity, or displacement.

My question for the model given above is:
How does ABAQUS apply it to the model if I specify a displacement history?

Does ABAQUS differentiate the displacement history to obtain the acceleration history and then apply it to the model?
Or does ABAQUS have another way of applying the displacement history to the model?

Hope somebody can help me out. Thanks in advance.
