supplier request

(OP)
Hi all,i'm new of this forum, it seams quite interesting to share informations!

My name is Andrea Mazzolari, i work at physics department of Ferrara University (Italy).
I have 1 plate of Iron of size 100x100x3mm and 1 plates of iron of size 100x100x6mm.
I need to improve flatness and parallelism of the 100x100 surfaces and i need higly polished 100x100 surfaces (i need mirror surfaces). I need flatness of 300nm (0.3um) over areas of 30x10mm. Is there any suggestion about a supplier able to do this ?

Many thanks,
Andrea Mazzolari

RE: supplier request

If you can actually get the specifications that you are looking for will very much be a function of how good the iron (cast iron?) material you start out with as the grain size may determin how good a finish you can get.

As you appear to be looking for flatness and final surface finish rather than sepcific dementions - you might want to talk the the people that finish and re callibrate the granite test blocks used in measuring and / or talk to the people at the university who are making telescopes --- both groups work with very fine finishes and to very high levels of "flatness".

good luck and happy hunting
