Load Calculations

Load Calculations

Load Calculations

(OP)
I am looking for a program to calculate HVAC loads for the marine environment.  I am familiar with the Carrier HAP program but it is not a good fit for running loads on a drilling rig.  Thank you.

RE: Load Calculations

HAP is used for yearly energy consumption calculations for HVAC.  Probably not what you need.  If you are sizing HVAC equipment you  need Carrier E20-II. You will have to pick a city close to where your rig is to get the weather data, possibly adjust for summer and winter design temperatures if you are in a remote location.  Other than that the software should work fine.

RE: Load Calculations

Kpha,

Maybe I could help? Do you know what the U factors that these rigs are made of?(walls, roof, floor) Where will this be located? What is the square foot of this rig? And finally, is there any internal heat gaining equip. inside?
I know it seems like alot but this is whats needed to perform and select the right unit.

RE: Load Calculations

I would think HAP would be acceptable for calculating loads at any place on the planet, if you can define the design conditions. After all, load calcs are mostly just a mass and energy balance calculation based on design conditions and envelope parameters.

What about HAP makes it unfit for calculating loads at sea?

RE: Load Calculations

The last time that I used HAP it was for yearly fuel consumption, not HVAC sizing.  There was a monumental amount of data entry.  Maybe there is a new HAP that will give sizing data alongside yearly energy data.  I have not used it for a long time.  It used to cost a lot more than E20-II.
