Block/group failure of piles

Block/group failure of piles

(OP)
does anyone out there ever check for group failure of end bearing piles (subject to minimim centres being exceeded)?

RE: Block/group failure of piles

More often to check for the settlement of pile groups.  That said, excessive settlement often relates to failure in the eyes of the client.

i was of the understanding that for end bearing the capacity if the group is going to be in excess of the individual pile make ups? Friction piles are different yes.

RE: Block/group failure of piles

You can use a lower safety factor for pile groups then for support by single piles.  That alone can make a difference of 15 to 30 percent.
