Insert Component 08

Insert Component 08

(OP)
When inserting a component in SW 08 as far as I know they took away the description.  Is there any way to change this and get a desciption back i.e. a setting?

We have our part numbers as config. names but I have no idea what that part is Im trying to insert if I have no description.

I know I have the right file but do i have the right fitting config. does it have G-1/8 thread or G-1/4 or the fittings tube size..... As of now I guess at the config. and if i'm wrong change the config. after I insert it.

More annoying than anything.

Thanks for any help.

I need/want descriptions per individual config.
That description is of the file.

If my memory is correct in SW 07 the description was in "" after the config. name.

see links

Thanks if anyone can help.

RE: Insert Component 08

Ah, I see.

You may well be correct, but I don't remember seeing the "Description" suffix in the config box; only in the FM tree.

I've just uninstalled '07 so cannot check.

cheers

RE: Insert Component 08

I have SW '07 and I can confirm that that the configuration-specific description is not available from the "Open" dialog.  Only the configuration names are available.

RE: Insert Component 08

I stand corrected.  I had assumed that the configuration description would be linked to the "Description" configuration-specific custom property like the file's description shown in the open dialog is linked to the file's "Description" custom property.  Sorry!

RE: Insert Component 08

I don't know of a setting which would affect the display of that config selection box.

Have you checked with your VAR to see if they know whether that display feature has been removed?

cheers

handle "configuration description would be linked to the "Description" configuration-specific custom property"

Even that would be fine. With us they have the same description so our BOM is not something totally different.

cor.

Thats my next step I allways check here first as you guys probably know more than our VAR.  My gut feeling is it was removed and I have to put in an enhancement request to try and get it back for 09....

Thanks for your help.

RE: Insert Component 08

You're welcome. Please post what your VAR knows about this.

cheers

VAR said if you pull parts from the design library it will show with the description in "".  Checked and that is correct.  If you insert component via file explorer there is no description per config.

I asked him to put in an enhancement request to hopefully get some variation of description back when inserting via file explorer.
