How to model the seabed

How to model the seabed

(OP)
Hi, I am trying to make a model with pipe laying on the seabed. How do I model the seabed and connect the pipe to the seabed? Could anyone help me please?
Thank you.

RE: How to model the seabed

Hi 020781,
u may use rigid element to define either (flat) or uneven seabottom and then use an interaction between pipeline and seabottom....but there is a problem...how long have to be your model coupled with the capabilities of your machine. This solution is very time consuming and generally requires also to modify the  .env file to increase the memory allocated.

Hi,
Thank you Barney75. I was more concise with my question. I will present the model in a elaborative way.
I have modelled the pipe with beam elements and the sea bed as 3D Analytical rigid body. I placed the pipe on the sea bed. I want to model the friciton between the seabed and the pipe, forwhich I made the interaction by using surface to surface interaction method and contact as my interaction property in which I defined the friction coefficient as tangential behaviour(The seabed is just acting as a analytical rigid body). I want to apply the displacement on the pipe to see the effect of friction on the movement of pipe.
1) Is my way of defining the seabed correct?
2) Will the interaction works?
3) Is it a correct way of defining friction or there is any other way of defining the friction?
Thank you.

RE: How to model the seabed

What do u mean with "friction coefficient as tangential behaviour".

A part this I think that it should work properly but my advice is whenever is possibile, always verify what ABAQUS gives to u as a results of FE analyses. In other words try first with simple model, check the results with analytical formulas and then go for pipe laying and pipe loading with pressure temperature earthquake and so on.... winky smile

Ciao

Hi Barney,
Thank you for your reply.
Friction coefficient as tangential behaviour means that the friction is defined in the Mechanical behviour where the friction is modelled as a lagrange multiplier.
The problem is that I could not able to get the results. The friction lagrange is changing to friction rough which make the sliding next to impossible and my job gets aborted?
How could I solve this problem?
Thank you,
