Teamcenter with I-deas
Teamcenter with I-deas
(OP)
Can anyone shed some light on using Teamcenter with I-deas & NX ?
Is it possible to bring an I-deas part into NX using teamcenter ?
As we move down the migration path from I-deas to NX, I need to work out the best way to handle legacy data.
The plan is to have seats of both I-deas & NX but get rid of the I-deas STEP translators and only use the NX version
How would I handle checking a part out of Teamcenter into i-deas to make a change, then having to take that part into NX to export as a step file ?

Now some of the licenses do different things, so be aware of that. For example you will probably want to wrangle an NX Adv. Assembly license to be able to do what you were able to with a simple assembly license in I-Deas.
My point is, once you get the dual licenses running, the Step license will be shared between NX and I-deas so if you get rid of your I-Deas licenses you have effectively gotten rid of your NX Step license.
Also, the best way to handle legacy data from Ideas to NX is to use the CMM tool which should also be provided to you from UGS. This thing is complicated at first (especially if you are not familiar with TC) but it works like a charm and retains I-Deas history in NX part format (although it can be tricky to modify using I-Deas or NX techniques).
One more thing, if you are absolutely certain you have to use STEP files (or some other translation), why not use "Interoperate" which creates a parasolid and are IMO much cleaner than step. I dont believe this uses any license either so it may be an out of the box function of I-Deas and NX. If you absolutely have to get rid of step licenses.

Thanks, but the question now is that included in My NX5 Mach 3 bundle is licenses for Step 203 & 214, would that still allow me to run the I-deas Step translator ?
