Modeling fluid filled cavity

Modeling fluid filled cavity

Modeling fluid filled cavity

(OP)
I am trying to model a fluid filled cavity and
I have defined the boundary of the cavity with shell elements.  How do I then define the interior with F3D3 or F3D4 hydrostatic fluid elements?  When I go into Mesh -> Element Type I don't see any fluid element options.  What am I missing?  Thanks in advance.
Chris

RE: Modeling fluid filled cavity

What is the purpose of modeling the fluid directly?  Do you simply want the hydrostatic pressure distribution?  OR is it something else?

I don't need to model the fluid directly, hydrostatic pressure should work. What do you recommend is the best way to do that? I have an orphan mesh part that I would like to model as a fluid-filled membrane. Thanks.

RE: Modeling fluid filled cavity

To create a hydrostatic pressure, you have two options:
1) Use the hydrostatic pressure distribution option in ABAQUS - but this is only good if your vertical direction is in the Z-Direction.
2) Create a user field and apply the pressure as a function of height.

You would apply this pressure distribution to the surfaces of the orphan mesh that woudl see the fluid...

Have a look at AOSS Answer 3025 - Creating hydrostatic fluid cavities in Abaqus/CAE (AOSS = the Abaqus Online Support System)

Thanks for the replies. I'm still working on the problem, although other issues in my model have come up (see new thread ). I don't have access to the online support system because I'm running an academic license. If there's any other way to get access to the support system answers, please let me know.
