PCCP for steep road

PCCP for steep road

PCCP for steep road

(OP)
Road with an 18% grade.  The civil engineer and owner want to use Portland cement concrete.  Low traffic, services about 10 or 12 homes.  Good soil, 5in concrete on 4in base course.

They have already poured curb and gutter.  They don't know what to do, so they are asking me, the geotech.  They will pour both sides of the road separately.

I'm thinking 12ft transverse saw cut joint spacing.  Thickened edges along both sides of each lane.

They want to texturize using tines (1/4" grooves).  This is a curb and gutter concrete company with no to limited experience with roads.

QUESTIONS:  Do we need expansion joints (5,000'el.)?  Any reinforcement needed along the center, longitudinal cold joint or between curb and pavement? What kind of reinforcement?  Should we use transverse keyways to help keep slab from sliding? Spacing?  Can tinning even be done with a metal rake, or will that look pretty crummy?

Thank you for any information you can provide me.

RE: PCCP for steep road

This is a month old.  Are you still looking for input or has it been poured?
