Curve on surface

Curve on surface

Does anyone know if it is possible to make a curve [line or arc] on an existing face of a solid. Guided through points and the possibility to attach dimensions to the points driving these curves. Not only planar but also curved faces [arc-like]

Yhanks, we are currently evaluating Solidworks as possibility with hypermill.

Hi Jeff, could you [Jeff or someone els] explain me how to do this, would like to test it. We are currently running a test license for one month, want to be sure we can cover our business questions with the SW.

RE: Curve on surface

You can create a 2D sketch on any planar surface, or plane, in SolidWorks. If you have a curved surface, you can create a new plane and project the sketch onto said surface. As for dimensioning, it depends on which sketch tool you use. If you use lines and arcs, dimensioning is easy. If you're using a spline, you can still constrain it.
If you can elaborate on your question a bit, we (as in the forum, not my multiple personalities) can give you a more exact answer.
