Unable to open UG file

Unable to open UG file

Unable to open UG file

(OP)
Greetings to all,
I have some UG version 18  files in my machine saved 2 years ago. Recently as similar project came up i tried to open the files in NX2, as 18 Version we no more use. I am getting a error saying "The following files could not be loaded causing this open to fail: C:\filepath\partname.prt - Not a part file"
I tried opening in NX4 it also throws the same error.
UG says its not a part file :(

Is there a solution to this or do i need to report to GTAC with the part file ?
Has any one came across this error.

Regards,
Karthikj

RE: Unable to open UG file

Do you have any other CAD softwares at your facility?  Could they have come from another software instead of UG/NX?  Only reason I ask is because UG isn't the only software that uses the .prt extension.

Other than that, I'd say if the files are definitely UG files, you'll probably have to contact GTAC to get the files opened.

RE: Unable to open UG file

Just try setting you load options to "No Components" before you start. You may have an assembly with either a missing member or more likely it is find one dud file of something that you pulled off a backup. You could get lucky and find yourself able to open the lions share of the design.

If you used some kind of backup be it RAR or ZIP let us know, but I wonder if you haven't opened one of multiple volumes and that why your part file would be incomplete.

Good Luck

Hi Tim i am sure that the file is a unigraphics file as i have earlier worked on it.
Hi Hudson i tried with no components but no luck.

Thanks for the replies,

RE: Unable to open UG file

Ok now this is probably too desperate to work, but we can only try. Open a new empty file, and then add your component to it as a component using assemblies. Sometimes you can get them to open that way if they're corrupt. If that works try making the hitherto dud part the work part, and then the displayed part. If you get all the way then save as another name.

Let us know how you go.

Best regards

Hudson
