What Stainless Steel to use for formed clips
What Stainless Steel to use for formed clips
(OP)
I am designing a small spring clip from stainless and need suggestions on what type of stainless to use. The clip will be about .018-.025 thick, half an inch wide and formed into a hoop with ears/mounting tabs. I'd like a stainless that does not need to be heat treated after forming, will hold it's shape well and be resistant to corrosion. Magnetic properties is not an issue. Any suggestions?

Is there any risk of chloride stress cracking?
How much strength do you need?
Go to ASTM A666 and look at strip available in temper rolled (higher) strengths. Most people would start with 201.
